Celebrate Carribean American Heritage Month with these four food companies we’re adding to our plant-based culinary bucket list.
1. B.A.D. Gyal Vegan
B.A.D. (standing for Blessed, Ambitious, and Determined) Gyal Vegan was founded by chef Chyna Love from a New York City temporary housing shelter and has since gone on to open two locations in Georgia AND offer nationwide shipping! In addition to its crispy wings and fried ‘skrimp,’ B.A.D. Gyal Vegan is especially known for its signature Voxtail™️, which you can order right to your doorstep.
2. Rethink Your Food’s Vegan Caribbean Kickstart
Started by Rethink Your Food Inc., an NGO based in Florida that helps raise public awareness about plant-based eating, Vegan Caribbean Kickstart offers a 21-day program that provides you with plant-based Caribbean recipes, meal plans, and more!
3. HAAM
New York City has no shortage of plant-based restaurants, but Healthy As a Motha (HAAM) is truly one of the best. Based in Brooklyn, HAAM serves Dominican and Trinidadian delicacies (like their popular sweet plantain boat, mofongo, and more) that The New Yorker has described as “a joy to eat.”
4. Dub N Grub
If you’re in Miami, swing by Dub N Grub! Chef Kriss Kofi started his business to bring plant-based Caribbean eats more easily to the public. Dub N Grub also offers catering, with drool-worthy dishes like baby back jackfruit ribs, curry veggie shrimp, and rosemary honey cornbread.
