The holiday season is upon us, which means special events and gatherings. It also means wintry weather and new potential risks for pets. Make sure to keep your pets’ welfare top of mind to avoid excess stress and injuries.
1. Secure your holiday decorations.
Keep those string lights, tinsel, or other festive decor out of reach from your pet. Don't forget to keep electrical cords out of sight, too!
2. Ensure seasonal or holiday plants aren't poisonous for your pet to ingest.
There are a number of plants that are toxic to our companion animals. During the holiday season, watch out for mistletoe and holly.
3. Provide your furry friend with a quiet place to wind down.
All the holiday festivities (we hear that off-key singing!) can create some stress for our companion animals. Make sure they have a quite place to take a break.
4. Plan for pet-friendly travel.
Do your research ahead of time to ensure your pets feel safe and their needs can be met.
5. Don't forget your pet in your winter disaster planning.
Don't wait until it's too late; prepare ahead of time for any disaster. We have many handy resources to make things easy!
6. Have an emergency supply of food for your pet
Winter storms can mean power outages, evacuations, and delays in shipping your pet's favorite food online.
7. Protect your pet from the cold.
Even with fur, animals feel the cold too. When it's too cold for you, it's too cold for them.
In addition, why not include your pet in your New Year's resolution? Pets can be great motivators, and spending more time with them will only strengthen your bond.
