Groupon’s CEO Receives Dozens of School Drawings Urging Him to Stop Supporting Animal Cruelty

Together with OBRAZ, a Prague-based animal rights group, we worked with local schools to send Groupon’s CEO (who is based in the Czech Republic) drawings from school children urging him to stop supporting animal cruelty.

At World Animal Protection, we’re still pressuring Groupon to stop selling deals to captive wildlife entertainment venues. This time, we took our campaign overseas. By partnering with OBRAZ, a Prague-based animal rights group, dozens of school drawings were sent to Dusan Senkypl, CEO of Groupon (although Groupon is a US-based company, the CEO is based in the Czech Republic).

The drawings were made by children from various schools in and outside of Prague. They drew pictures of elephants, dolphins, tigers, and orcas being held in captivity and asking for their freedom. The teachers also sent a letter:

Dear Mr. Senkypl,

We are supporting World Animal Protection and OBRAZ´s campaign and we ask you and Groupon to stop supporting animal abuse by selling tickets to harmful attractions that use wild animals for profit. Every child knows that wild animals do not belong behind bars or in big aquariums. The pupils of SCHOOL are cheering you up and sending you reminders of the big difference that you can make for animals, and for people too.

Please do the right thing and commit to be a part of a solution, not part of the problem. Publish an animal welfare policy and make Groupon a wildlife-friendly company. I will be awaiting your response.

Kind regards,

TEACHER
