We're uniting with other animal organizations to ask McDonald's to implement higher, science-based animal welfare standards for its chicken supply chain.
In fall 2017, McDonald’s issued a statement outlining its eight-point plan for its chicken supply.
This plan does not address several critical welfare issues, including giving chickens more space to move, transitioning to healthier breeds, and providing environmental enrichments for the birds to express their natural behavior.
McDonald’s is instead promising to carry out more research, but more research isn’t needed. Widespread consensus and research already exists on essential changes to improve chicken welfare.
We now need clear leadership and specific commitments to help poultry producers and breeding companies scale up the change chickens need faster.
