Most animals sold in pet stores aren’t puppies. Millions of small mammals (such as guinea pigs, hamsters, and gerbils), reptiles (such as bearded dragons and turtles), amphibians (frogs), birds, and fishes are bred in cruel mills or taken from the wild and sold at big box pet stores like PetSmart and Petco every year. Many animals die before even reaching the store.
