Giving Stock

Stocks, bonds, and mutual funds that have appreciated in value can be donated to support World Animal Protection’s life-saving mission. You may receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full market value of the stock (up to a maximum of 30% of your adjusted gross income) and avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the value of the stock.

Our free stock-giving tool makes it easy to learn more about the potential tax savings from donating stocks and access or transfer information. The tool guides you through the necessary paperwork in less than 5 minutes.

Benefits of Gifting Stock

Avoid Capital Gains Tax

When selling appreciated stock, you typically owe capital gains tax on the increase in value. By donating stock directly, you avoid paying capital gains tax, allowing you to give more to charity while reducing your tax burden.

Maximize Your Charitable Deduction

You can deduct the full fair market value of the stock on the date of donation (if held for more than one year).

Impact Without Affecting Cash Flow

Donating stock lets you support World Animal Protection without using cash, preserving liquidity for other investments or expenses. This is a great option for individuals who hold highly appreciated assets but want to maintain their cash reserves.

Rebalance Your Portfolio With Strategic Giving

If you need to rebalance your investment portfolio, donating stock helps adjust your asset allocation while supporting World Animal Protection’s mission. You can donate highly appreciated stock and then reinvest the cash into a new position without triggering capital gains taxes.

Combine With a Donor-Advised Fund for Greater Benefits

You can donate stock to a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF), take the tax deduction immediately, and distribute gifts to charities over time. This allows for long-term, strategic philanthropy while maximizing tax efficiency.
